I Love to Paint!
I prefer a painting to look like it happened just now, almost by itself. A splash of color with the flick of the wrist, a spontaneous gesture line drawn for the moment, infinitely expanding in all directions from the picture plane. This engages the viewer in not just "reading" the painting but become involved in a more total vision.
I was born in India and live in the West. My work reflects this East/ West amalgamation. Extensive travels have helped my attempts to understand the historical and cultural lineages of traditional and modern art forms. By dominating these influences, my abstract works emerge as very independent and reflect my individuality.
I approach my abstract paintings with no specific idea. I take time to develop rich surfaces and textures with layers of transparent colors and other techniques. I make marks, spots, scribbles, and lines in color, sometimes adding other materials. These images may or may not be representational. They may or may not be fragments of memory. They are invented spontaneously and intuitively as each painting is created.
This engages the viewer is not just "reading" the painting but become involved in a more total vision.
In my figurative work, I allow more influence from my origins in an extraordinary sculptural tradition.
I generally allow my work to stand alone without the confines or distractions of frames.
I make my art in my studios on Hawaii Island and in Fountain Hills. My work is collected widely.
